Education requires freedom. It's freedom that allows for a confrontation with the “manifold situations” (Wilhelm von Humboldt) required for education and personal development. The school that we are founding is itself a manifold that is constantly changing and therefore able to support the processes of “becoming different” at the foundation of education. The school also offers space for the self-will of the many individuals who live and learn in it – and this without restriction, as long as the self-will of one does not restrict that of another. In order to allow for and protect this self-will we are giving this school a democratic constitution. The school avoids – to the greatest possible extent – the conditions that often hinder, or even prevent, learning at other schools. There is no compulsory learning, and students shall not be subjected to the superficial logic of school certificates. This is why we are naming the school “Unbedingte Schule” (“unconditional school”), after Jacques Derrida's "Unconditional University".

The active members of our group are parents and university students from Bonn, Alfter, Köln and the surrounding region. The founding group formed out of various school-founding and discussion groups in and around Bonn and Alfter, as well as a group of students from the University of Cologne. Our school concept was agreed in the spring of 2010. The group is currently working on founding the school and applying for state approval. We would like to open in the fall of 2011.
