The USO is an NGO that represents the interests of its 90 member organisations on the national and international level. It sees itself as a platform for anyone involved - or interested in becoming involved - in the issue of schooling and education. The USO's main field of action is providing information and training to its member organisations through workshops, seminars, informational events, an interactive internet portal and its own newspaper.
The USO has established itself on the European level, as a member of the Organising Bureau of the European School Student Unions - OBESSU, and is active in the promotion of democratic education (EUDEC).
